The physical pain I am currently experiencing shifts to different parts of my body—sometimes the buttocks, hands, arms, or shoulder blades—and I believe it is muscular in origin. I consulted a palliative care specialist who simply prescribed painkillers without investigating the matter further. I would like to know the cause of such intense muscle pain: what tests should be performed to determine the underlying issue? I also feel almost constant pain in my spine and right femur; I was referred… read more
Eli, try not to go the pain killer route as getting off of them is no fun it’s not the addictive factor it’s the side effects it causes. I’m not sure of how recent you have come down with MM but my experience has been that if you get the MM under control then the body will somewhat heal itself, yet it’s a slow process. Depending upon what stage you are at please read all you can about SCT. SCT is old school most new medications work and you don’t have to go through that. Do ask your oncologist if it’s imperative. Also it is your decision. I didn’t have a SCT and I am now off all medication and feel pretty good. Meds take a toll on your body too so it takes time to recover. Wish you all the best!
Hi Eli - has your team run an MRI of your spine recently? I just got out of the hospital with 5 days of radiation. A lesion had grown into my spinal column creating spinal stenosis. It was very serious, and I really had no idea what was happening. I'm so much better now and will be eternally grateful to the team at The James Cancer Center in Columbus, Ohio.
Regarding painkillers, I have never taken any! Considering I'm 10 years in to this, I am blessed. I did learn that you have to manage pain to heal. My goal is to be off them completely, but also know I have a journey ahead with more radiation to lymph nodes on my neck and more healing with my spine and back.
I don't mean to scare you today, but it never hurts to ask more questions and seek help. God bless you in your journey. ♥️🙏🏻

Eli,
If I don’t take my supplements, I feel like a truck hit me. Calcium also helps dull pain. I take 1400 mg of MRM Bone Maximizer III with extra D3 and K2. Also, vitamins C, A and E complex to make everything work better. I have been doing this for 6 years and it’s really helped with the pain. Avoiding salty foods, caffeine, carbonation, alcohol, and going out to eat really helps too. Each of those pull calcium out of your bones and muscles. Hope this helps.

Hi Eli @A MyMyelomaTeam Member - I've certainly had bone pain and muscle pain in smoldering MM & in MM. When I was able, I went for massage therapy - focusing on the areas that were causing me pain. The therapist used a CBD ointment, and it really helped. Massage therapy is GREAT!
Unfortunately for me, the cost of massages is prohibitive at this time - but I would jump right back into it when I'm able. :)
