I am on Revlimid maintenance and use Colestipol that was prescribed by my Multiple Myeloma Specialist. This addresses diarrhea ,some IBS,and bile acid malabsorption. My Revlimid experience is that I have IBS from dairy and used a Fodmap process to analyze food sensitivities. Talk with your healthcare team to confirm this for your situation. I hope this helps.

Bloating is a real and frustrating issue for many people with myeloma. It can stem from several causes related to both the disease itself and its treatments.
Common causes include:
- Corticosteroids (like dexamethasone) β a very frequent culprit for bloating, gas, and constipation
- Revlimid (lenalidomide) β can trigger a condition called bile acid malabsorption (BAM), leading to bloating and diarrhea
- Hypercalcemia β high calcium levels caused by myeloma can lead to abdominal pain and bloating
- Constipation β a common side effect of many myeloma treatments
One MyMyelomaTeam member shared, "The only drug that gives me grief are the steroids with bloating, gas and constipation." Another noted a bad reaction to Revlimid causing abdominal bloating and gas pains, and their doctor paused all medications for a week to let their system settle. There are some ways to help manage bloating:
- Stay hydrated β important during any myeloma treatment
- Diet adjustments β your care team can suggest changes to ease discomfort
- Stomach massage β can help encourage digestion and relieve bloating
- Talk to your doctor before trying any over-the-counter remedies, as they can interact with your treatment
Never stop or adjust your medications on your own β always check with your healthcare provider first. If bloating is significantly affecting your quality of life, bring it up at your next appointment so your treatment plan can be reviewed.
