- First 100 days are the most vulnerable — high risk for infection, bleeding, and fatigue
- 2–6 weeks for blood counts to begin recovering
- 6 months to a year for the immune system to fully recover
- Doctors will monitor for minimal residual disease (MRD) — tiny amounts of myeloma cells that may remain after treatment
- MRD results help show how well the treatment is working
For lambda light chain myeloma specifically, light chain levels in the blood and urine are closely tracked as key markers of how well treatment is working post-transplant.
