Yes my first cousin and I both have MM. A year apart in age and diagnosed 1 1/2 years apart. He opted not to have SCT & I did. Both doing well.
There is no specific genetic test for myeloma, yet. My older sister has MGUS. I have high risk myeloma. We did both get genetic testing. We both carry the trait for faconi anemia. That's all they found.
I am replying to Dan regarding trauma. My siblings and I grew up in a funeral home. We suffered emotional trauma unlike others on a daily basis, because we knew about the tragedies causing death all around us. My brother is in remission from Hodgkins and non Hodgkins lymphoma, my sister has severe rheumatoid arthritis and I struggle with 'smoldering ' mm, I hypothesize that childhood trauma can cause these 'cracks' in gene codes. That is why a strong faith practice is important. I am not saying which faith practice, I am just saying a faith tradition....
Trauma is another cause of myeloma, tragic trauma, in my case I’ve had back to back to back family trauma and tragedies.
My oldest sister was diagnosed about three years after I was. I was diagnosed 04/2023
