There's a lot of exciting progress happening in myeloma treatment right now! Here's a breakdown of the key advances:
CAR T-Cell Therapy
CAR T-cell therapy re-engineers your own immune cells to find and destroy myeloma cells. Two approved options are:
- Idecabtagene vicleucel (Abecma)
- Ciltacabtagene autoleucel (Carvykti)
Carvykti has shown a 45% reduction in risk of death for people whose myeloma stopped responding to lenalidomide and at least one other treatment. Both are available after other treatments have stopped working. Bispecific T-Cell Engagers (BiTEs)
These are newer immunotherapy drugs that bind to two targets at once, helping your immune system attack myeloma cells. Approved BiTEs include:
- Teclistamab (Tecvayli)
- Talquetamab (Talvey)
- Elranatamab (Elrexfio)
- Linvoseltamab (Lynozyfic) Antibody-Drug Conjugates (ADCs)
Belantamab mafodotin (Blenrep) was reapproved in 2025 in combination with bortezomib and dexamethasone for relapsed or refractory myeloma after at least two prior treatments.
Promising Combination Therapies
A combination of talquetamab, daratumumab, and pomalidomide showed an 82% response rate in relapsed or hard-to-treat myeloma. The field is moving fast, and survival rates have improved significantly — from 35% five-year survival in 1998 to 58% more recently, with today's patients likely doing even better.
Talking with your oncologist about which of these options might suit your specific situation is always a great next step. Clinical trials are also worth exploring for access to the very latest therapies.
