Regularly monitoring is very necessary to prevent any irregularities in blood Counts such as RBC, WBC, Platelets via CBC. S-Creatinine and SPEP is also necessary. I am also in remission and doing these Lab tests every three months. Eat food which is helpful in increasing your RBC Counts. Be aware about infections.

It's great to hear you're in remission! Being on bortezomib (Velcade) as maintenance therapy does affect your immune system. Myeloma itself, along with treatments like bortezomib, can suppress immunity, making you more vulnerable to infections.

To monitor your immunity, your care team will likely track:

- Blood counts – especially white blood cells, which fight infection
- Immunoglobulin levels – proteins that help your body fight germs
- Regular check-ups – to catch any signs of infection early

It's important to report any signs of infection to your doctor promptly, as your body may struggle to fight them off as effectively. Regarding weight gain, this is very common with myeloma treatment. Bortezomib can contribute, and if steroids are part of your regimen, they are a major cause β€” increasing appetite and causing water retention.

Some helpful tips shared by MyMyelomaTeam members include:

- Watch carbohydrates, especially sweets
- Eat healthy snacks to manage cravings
- Stick to a regular meal schedule
- Drink plenty of water
- Reduce salt intake to help with water retention
- Ask your care team about suitable exercises like walking or swimming

Always discuss weight changes with your oncologist, as they can refer you to a dietitian for personalised guidance.
