Bone pain in tibia

I want to know whether smm would cause pain in my tibia. It sometimes feels like my leg is being hit with a ballpene hammer. It starts and stops.

Depends upon what percentage of myeloma cells are in your blood. The higher the percentage, the higher possibility of bone pain. I used Claritin successfully to reduce the bone pain. (it is an antihistamine and the bone pain is an inflammation reaction)

I had SMM for 9 years. I sometimes had pain like that in my lower leg. The mri showed some marrow involvement and that was when all my numbers leaded to treatment. Ask for an MRI just to make sure it is not MM. I had so many MRIs over the years with every pain I had the dr check them out. I am a worry wart.

Leg and tibia (shin bone) pain is a very common and often debilitating experience for people with myeloma. Many MyMyelomaTeam members describe it as deep, shooting, or burning — and it can make everyday tasks like standing, cooking, or even getting dressed really difficult.

There are several reasons why myeloma can cause leg and tibia pain:

- Bone lesions — Myeloma cells build up in the bone marrow, damaging the bone and creating weak spots or fractures
- Peripheral neuropathy — Myeloma or its treatments can damage nerves, causing numbness, tingling, or a "pins and needles" feeling in the legs and feet
- Spinal cord compression — Fractured vertebrae can press on spinal nerves, sending pain shooting down into the legs
- High calcium levels (hypercalcemia) — Calcium leaking from damaged bones into the blood can cause muscle and bone pain
- Leg cramps — Some myeloma treatments can cause muscles in the legs and feet to painfully tighten ⚠️ Important: If you experience sudden, severe back pain or new numbness and weakness in your legs, seek emergency medical care immediately. Spinal cord compression can, in serious cases, lead to permanent paralysis.
