yes, indeed. They check my labs before I have treatment to see if there is anything wrong they need to correct. While I was anemic at the beginning of my MM, it never got bad enough that I needed a transfusion. I did need an infusion of potassium during my first treatment. I think it would have been nice for the RN to be a bit more specific with her message to try to ease some of your anxiety.

Your Hematologist/Oncologist MM Specialist should be doing blood labs before your infusion, to see if you are healthy enough to receive treatment. This was standard for my mom when she had ovarian cancer. I would think it would be the same for MM. If you had low RBC before the infusion, the treatment will make your numbers go down. Maybe dangerously, which is why they want to do a transfusion. I see you posted this 3 days ago. I hope all is well. It’s important to ask your doctor if there is an emergency number you can call.
