Laurie, I had this happen due to compression fractures of vertebrae. I had 55% in my T12 and 10% in all my lumbar vertebrae so I am measuring 2 inches shorter. That height loss and where it occurred means the stomach area expanded. I had a flat stomach my whole life and now I don't but I am alive.
I gained weight in my stomach from steroids. Dexamethasone is a steroid. Be careful with it. You have to taper off it, and not stop immediately, otherwise you develop Cushing’s like I did. My 31 inch waistline is now 40. I was thin all my life. My Hematologist does not want me losing weight. She says I may need it later, when treatment makes food taste terrible.

I've lost 20 pounds since starting treatment on January 19th, I'm a 6'1" man, so 20 pounds to me isn't too drastic, but might be to my doctor, haven't really discussed it yet as my Oncologist is retiring next month and they just switched me to a new one, I see her on the 21st. I just haven't been hungry most of the day, especially in the morning. I've had to force myself to eat, I think most of this is linked to anxiety. I've also changed my eating habits, no more red meat, more fruits, as much vegetables as I can tolerate, and chicken/eggs as my main source of protein. Cut out all sugar except the sugar that is in the food I eat. Only drink water now, with a little 50 Cal Orange Juice here and there at breakfast. No more alcohol, except a beer periodically with friends. Since getting on anxiety medicine, my appetite has returned to a better level and and my stomach doesn't ache like it was daily, so that's a positive.
Very familiar scenario.🤗
Thanks. I gain and lose. Never figured anxiety in it. I lost 73 lbs in three months when I started treatment. Diarrhea was the culprit. Told me to gain it all back which I did to 290. I. Never got through all my first courses. My blood wok numbers droppped like flies. I’ve been in slumber( remission ) for 19months. I had two different kinds of diarrhea in four months. Could not walk when I got home but friend and PT got me moving. I know walk w/o a cane most of the time. It a long road. I am sick of rethinking things to do tasks. Just started cooking agin. Mostly lunch and dinner. Frozen meals etc. I eat red meat on drs suggestin to help with anemia. This year I figure out how to rake some flower beds when the weather gets better. I knit to keep my fingers limber. May the Lord bless your journey! Nancy
