I was turned down for SDT in 2008; not only that, but she then gave me "six months, maybe" to live. In 2101 I was taken off Chemo. I haven't been back.MM did cost me two knees and 6" of spine. I'm 84 and shooting for 100. Odds? I don't think much about odds anymore.

I had my sct on 10/24. Would not opt for a second as the melphalan knocked me on my ***! Plus, I don't want to start at ground zero immune system all over again. I only have my MMR left, no way gonna start from scratch. Told doc, try something different. I've been reading up on iberdomide. So far so good, they say I'm stable, hopefully it stays that way for quite some time.

I’m leaning against having it done. From what I’ve read, it does not add much, and the potential for side effects is greater.

Are you wondering about others' experiences with opting out of stem cell transplant (SCT)?
Some MyMyelomaTeam members have had their SCT delayed or postponed for various reasons, including medical circumstances or treatment plan changes. Members have shared experiences where their doctors recommended continuing with other treatments like chemotherapy or maintenance therapy instead of proceeding with transplant immediately.
The decision about whether to pursue SCT is highly individual and depends on several factors:
* Your overall health and fitness for the procedure
* How well your myeloma is responding to current treatments
* Your age and any other health conditions
* Access to transplant centers and support during recovery
* Personal preferences about treatment intensity
It's worth noting that access to SCT isn't equal for everyone, with some groups having lower transplant rates than others.
If you're considering opting out or delaying SCT, having a meaningful conversation with your healthcare team is essential. They can help you understand your specific situation, discuss alternative treatment options, and create a plan that works best for you.
What concerns do you have about SCT that are making you consider other options?
