I’ve had the m-spike and the different chains. I’ve had times my creation is up and iron has been low. Pain in legs, arm and lower back.

Members rallied around someone with MGUS and a family history of multiple myeloma, strongly encouraging them to seek care from a multiple myeloma specialist rather than a general oncologist, emphasizing that specialists provide more thorough monitoring including bone marrow biopsies and deeper investigation into symptoms like pain and numbness that are often dismissed as arthritis. Several members shared personal experiences of being underdiagnosed or mismanaged until switching to a specialist, with one member describing how their MGUS progressed to smoldering myeloma only after seeing an expert at a major treatment center, and resources like The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation's specialist directory were repeatedly recommended. A recurring theme was the importance of self-advocacy, bringing written questions to appointments, trusting your instincts when something feels wrong, and taking proactive steps like dietary changes and supplements such as curcumin that may help prevent progression from MGUS to active myeloma.

Rita,
I also had a MM Specialist who did not listen to me or answer my questions. I changed doctors for that too. What I have found useful is to bring a list of questions and give them a copy and write down their answers. You deserve their time to answer questions. The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation actually has a list of questions you should be asking your doctor. HTTPS://www.themmrf.org

Rita,
That’s a doctor who does not have your best interests at heart, or knows nothing about MM. Look into changing doctors. It was the best thing I did. You are trusting your doctor with your life. The AI generated response is telling you having members in your family with MM, means being watched closely. Getting a bone marrow biopsy is important. Find a MM Specialist in your area and get your records transferred over to them. You need that second opinion. I highly recommend Dr Brandy’s book “Beat Back Cancer Naturally.” It has helped me change my diet and take supplements that help and my SMM is not progressing.

Hi Rita. I had MGUS 12 years before my MM became active. But looking back I would have been more pro-active. You can research what dietary (more plants) and lifestyle changes and supplements (curcumin is one excellent example) that has helped prevent progression in some.

Check out Sloan Memorial Kettering MGUS and smoldering MM clinical trials for more detail.

Hope you will do well and not progress to active MM. 🙏🏽❤️

I looked them up and the funny thing is that both of the doctors are on there

Rita,
Look up your doctors online. See if they are MM Specialists. My first 2 were not. It’s not different in any other State. Only large treatment centers have MM Specialists, that’s why sometimes you need to contact them and talk to them on your phone or computer.
