Hello Community,
My mother is suffering from MM from past 1.5 year. She developed a complication recently and it has made us anxious and traumatized.
I hide many things (test results) from her so that she stays away from tension and any kind of mental trauma. But as a caregiver I am finding these days difficult.
I am seeking for mental, emotional counselling from anyone who have been in tough situations. Please respond🙂
Please find you a support group for caregiver near you. It do get overwhelmed sometimes. Remember to take time for yourself in order to care for your mother. Meditate in prayer to release mind tension. 🙏🏻
Thank you so much for the detailed response. Your words are really helpful and I will try to follow all the steps suggested🙂
, thank you for speaking up. What you’re feeling is very real and very human.
Caring for a parent with MM is emotionally heavy. You’re trying to protect your mother from fear, while carrying that fear alone — and that can quietly exhaust you. Many caregivers reach this point, even though they don’t talk about it.
A few thoughts that may help: You don’t have to be strong all the time. Even caregivers need care.Hiding information can come from love, but it also increases your own anxiety. Sharing small, manageable truths (when appropriate) can sometimes ease the burden. Try to create one safe outlet just for you — a friend, a support group, or a counselor — where you can speak freely.
What helped many of us:
Talking to others who’ve walked this path — caregiver or patient — and understand without explanation.
Taking short mental breaks: walks, prayer/meditation, journaling, even 10 minutes helps.
Reminding yourself: You are doing your best with what you know today.
You’re not weak for feeling this way. You’re a loving son in a very difficult situation. Please don’t carry this alone — this community is here for you.
That is really inspiring🙂.
My mother is also diagnosed with stage 3 MM in September 2024, we are on continuous chemo/immuno with Darzalex/bortizomib. We also underwent a autologous stem cell transplant in Feb 2025. Just within one year she developed a complication in her spine and we underwent a spine surgery.
Post surgery she is very much weak, tensed. Not able to walk much, has lost all the energy.
How's this? I was diagnosed with stage 3 MM, May 2008. Lost 4" back due to spinal damage and had both knees replaced. I got off chemo after about three years. Oh yea, I was given six months to live too! I was born the day before they bombed Pearl Harbor, so I guess on the sixth I'll be 85. Even though I'm CURED, I still get annual bloodwork done.
