Hi Sally! Hope you are well today. I have been on Zometa for a long time now, with no issues. I take calcium, vitamin D, a multi vitamin, and hair, skin and nails daily.
I asked my dentist about jaw necrosis, and he told me that generally a tooth extraction is what might cause jaw necrosis for someone on this type of medication. Since I haven't had any tooth extractions, I've tried not to worry. So, you might ask your dentist to confirm this if you have a chance. I do go to the dentist for cleanings every 4 months.
Hope you have a great day!!! ♥️
For Bone Health & Recovery:
Prior to Treatment for my Bone Lesion in Sept 2023 treatment, I had been loading up on Vit D (moved from 38ng to 84ng - taking 15,000IU daily). Then plenty of Magnesium (400mg magnesium glycinate (+ 200mg magnesium citrate for constipation, as needed) ), Vit C (2000mg daily), Vit K2 (200mcg daily), Vit K (120mcg daily), Calcium Carbonate (1500mg - 2 TUMs daily), Strontium Citrate (680mg late at night - 2hrs away from any calcium intake). The Proper Pre & Probiotics can create Butyrate in the colon. Butyrate is capable of restoring the proper balance of IL-17 activity that is normally disrupted by active MM. When these items are restored, then the osteoblasts activity is available to perform bone regeneration, provided adequate amount of Minerals and Vitamins are available.
The Pro and Pre Biotics that I used are: Pendulum Glucose Control - 2 pills daily - Probiotic Microbiome MegaPre - one scoop daily in 16oz water – Prebiotic.

Sally,
I refused Zometa and all the other medications like it because of the side effects. I did lots of research. They don’t build new bone, they just try and stop the breakdown. Breakdown is normal so it can be replaced. MM breaks it down quicker. Once you have been on these drugs for a long time, your bones become brittle and break easier! I turned to supplements. I tried a lot of different calcium supplements and found MRM Bone Maximizer III worked best for me, but you may find one you like better. I have had severe osteoporosis since 2019. I was breaking ribs with no trauma then. Now I’m taking 1200-1400 mg of Calcium & Magnesium with extra D3 for absorption and K2 which tells the calcium to go to the bones instead of clogging arteries. My blood calcium has gone down with this protocol. This is super important and not one doctor talks about it, because they did not train in supplements. Only medicine. The percentage they talk about getting osteonecrosis of the jaw includes everyone, but I think if they looked at just MM patients, the percentage would be high. I’ve been on this site for years and too many people post about it. If I started on Zometa in 2019, I would only be able to take it for so many years, and now 6+ years later my bones would be brittle and maybe breaking.

Rick,
So you have never used a bone strengthener??? I, like you feel like Iam doing everything to keep my bones strong and healthy that there is no need to use a bone strengthener..
With all the side effects !!
Thank you !!
I use no supplements but exercise daily a mixture of stretching and strength conditioning. Have no issues with bone health or high calcium levels. Not sure if it is the exercise or the treatments that are helping or a combination of.
