Hi. Day 8 after RFA where my nerves were burned in 6 spots. Still quite sore and painful. Dr tells me about 4 weeks to recover so not sure if it helped at this point. Not sure what would come next but not going through this again! I too would feel pretty normal if it wasn’t for back pain. Take care.

Has radiofrequency ablation helped your back pain after 5 days?

It's still quite early in your recovery. Pain and soreness 5 days after the procedure are common, and it can take time to know if it's working. Some people experience temporary increased discomfort at the treatment site before improvement begins.

Back pain in myeloma can have several causes, including bone lesions, vertebral fractures, or tumors pressing on nerves. The effectiveness of radiofrequency ablation may depend on what's causing your specific pain.

If your pain isn't improving or is getting worse, it's important to follow up with your doctor. They can assess whether:
- You need more time to heal
- The procedure targeted the right pain source
- Additional treatments might be needed

Other members have found relief through various approaches like radiation therapy for lesions, physical therapy, pain medications, or procedures like kyphoplasty for vertebral fractures. Your healthcare team can help determine the best next steps based on your specific situation.

Give yourself a bit more time, but don't hesitate to reach out to your doctor if you have concerns about your recovery.

Hi Steven, yes I have had it and it didn’t do much. Next I tried trigger point cortisone injection that helped for two or three weeks off and on. Next we are thinking about burning the nerves. I have an appointment at Mayo on January 6th to discuss this option. Not sure if there is anything else to try. I wasn’t going to even consider this option but I’m feeling so much better that if the back pain would stop I would be 80% of my old self and that would be a blessing! Don’t give up! One of these treatments has to work! Let me know what’s next for you! 👍
