Yes, I had radiation while doing the DVR induction therapy. I had 8 of the the scheduled 10 radiation treatments (stopped when my esophagus was burned), and it was very helpful in shrinking the lesions and reducing the pain the lesions were creating,
Eli, When I was first diagnosed (2021) I had both radiation, dialysis, and chemo at the same time. I had been admitted to the hospital via the emergency room with an identified tumor on my back/spine, kidney failure and anemia. I was unable to walk and delirious. In a couple of days they diagnosed MM, and had started dialysis. The tumor was related to the MM. They quickly developed a radiation plan for the tumor and my oncologist team planned my chemotherapy. In a few days I had regained enough strength for treatment to begin. For about three weeks I had chemo, radiation, and dialysis. The radiation destroyed the tumor and I was released to a recovery center where dialysis and chemo continued. I chose to go to the recovery center for fear my family would find me dead at home. I got stronger over the weeks there until I did go home. Some months later my kidneys had recovered to the point we stopped dialysis. I continue chemo, changing treatments every few months, never staying in remission for long until now. As for side effects, I was so sick I am sure many were masked but loss of immunity lead to a case of shingles (mild since I had already had one shot of the vaccine), diarrhea for weeks, dizziness (bedridden, then wheelchair, walker, cane), anemia, weakness, etc.
Eli, I started from a very low spot. You do not seem to be as low as me. My treatments were very effective in keeping me alive. The radiation was probably the easiest part. I wish you the best and recommend you trust your oncologist team as well as getting a second opinion on just about everything.
Have you had chemotherapy and radiation therapy at the same time during different days in the same month?
While the search results don't include specific experiences from MyMyelomaTeam members who had both treatments simultaneously, this combination can happen depending on your specific myeloma situation.
