Yes, each type of immunoglobulin (IgA, IgM, and IgG) can have either kappa or lambda light chains. Normal immunoglobulins are Y-shaped proteins made up of:
• Two longer "heavy" chains (like IgA, IgM, or IgG)
• Two shorter "light" chains (either kappa or lambda) In multiple myeloma, these proteins can become abnormal in different ways. IgG is the most common type, found in about half of myeloma cases, followed by IgA which occurs in about 20% of cases. IgM myeloma is very rare. Some people may have light chain myeloma (also called Bence-Jones myeloma) where only the light chain proteins are produced without any heavy chains.
