I have chemotherapy next week and there are a few things that have been on my mind lately.
I’m feeling a bit anxious about the side effects and would really appreciate any tips on how to manage or reduce them. Also, I’ve been feeling quite stressed emotionally.😭
TaMn2, your doctors and nurses will want you to check with them before starting any vitamins and supplements. I take several, it's on my chart. So they can check for interactions 🥰
TaMm2,
Melphalan is a strong chemo drug and it did cause my hair to fall out so I asked nurse to shave my head and wore different caps to keep my head covered but it’s really not as bad as some of the 4 chemo combination drugs that they gave me in the beginning. I got hot flashes was tired slept a lot had to take vitamins and drink lots of water pedialyte water melon beet root juice Concord grape juice pomegranate juice no sodas and eat lots of veggies and fruits very small amounts of meat no bacon hot dogs sausage or lunch meats some seafood and chicken nuts and berries.
My hair grew back in 6 months course I did wear a wig when I left my house.
Really it was not bad at all considering all I had been through early on.
Please don’t stress it will be over quickly and you’ ll be back home and you will be in remission do just trust in God and I’ll be praying for you too!!!!
Donna thank you for your usual support really appreciated ..I hope so ..
I have good news for you. Multiple myeloma chemotherapy involves effective drugs that specifically targets and destroy cancerous plasma cells in the blood or bone marrow. These are administered either by pill or injection. This type of chemotherapy differs from traditional chemo, where harsh chemicals are given by infusion and non-specifically targets fast growing, dividing cells, like cancer, but also affects healthy cells that divide quickly, such as those in hair follicles, the lining of the intestines, and bone marrow. There are side effects from MM drugs, and common ones are fatigue and rashes. However, it’s not unheard of people getting a MM treatment over their lunch break and returning to work an hour later. I think you’ll be surprised how smoothly the treatment goes. No worries!
It's rough at the beginning. It does get better 🥰
