Curt, low platelets and neutrophils can be from illness and treatment! This usually requires certain nutrients that can be taken along with treatment. However, it's very important to talk to your doctor or nutritionist first. Usually, foods are enough to supplement this... but when it comes to illness and treatment you may require higher concentrations of nutrients. That's what supplements are 'just higher concentrations of nutrients.' You still have to know how much to and how to take nutrients with your medications. I would like to give you a few that might help, but please let your doctor see what you are taking.
Nutrients for low platelets.
Enzymes (Papaya leaf extract)
Chlorophyll
Vitamin C (with bioflavonoids)
Omega 3 fatty acids (High DHA/EPA)
Folate (B9) ... do not get folic acid, has absolutely no value
Vitamin B12 (Methylcobalamin)
Vitamin K2 Mk-7
Calcium
Nutrients for low neutrophils.
Foods that are high in vitamin C (fruit/vegetables) or
Vitamin C supplements (with bioflavonoids)
Vitamin E
Zinc
Omega 3s
Folate (B9)
I truly hope this helps! Don't forget that there are foods with these nutrients... with illness and treatment, these are just higher or concentrated forms of nutrients.π
I have low platelets from taking prednisone to alleviate an immune system reaction to Revlimid -- my body finally said "No more!" Prednisone weakens one's body and puts on visceral fat. This combined with Eliquis has my platelets @ 65,000 instead of 150-250,000. Anyway, my doctor does not wish to do a platelet infusion -- so I am eating the right foods and working out, etc. Will come off Eliquis in the next month (hopefully) as I am being monitored for a month to ensure no heart issues. Otherwise I am fine, in complete remission as measured in my bone marrow DNA to 1 in a million cells. Just dealing with unintended consequences.
Daphne, Thank you so very much for the information. Much appreciated. π·
They will hopefully come up on their own. I didn't get a platelet transfusion until mine were less than 20 thousand. Thankfully, I haven't needed transfusions of blood or platelets since my transplant.
I have had MM for 1 year, went thru stem cell transplant, now on an injection Heplisav-B 20mcg/0.5. Generic hepatitis B CPG vaccine biweekly. I also take 10mg Lenalidomide, and famotidine 40mg for acid reflex and, nortriptyline 50mg for neuropathy. My question is I'm putting a lot of fat around my belly. I exercise daily and walk 8000 steps. I'm active and never had this problem before. Could it be because of one of these medications?
