I'm trying not to think about getting another cancer. I know I'm at risk. I keep up with my follow-up appointments and get my routine cancer screenings.
Usually, until disease progression or intolerance. It varies. Some people are in clinical trials. They take maintenance for a set time. Some with standard risk myeloma that achieve sustained mrd negativity, are allowed to go off maintenance and be monitored. I personally have been on Darzalex and Pomalyst since 2017. I'm still mrd positive. So I will probably be on something for the duration. I gave high risk genetics.
I know about worrying about secondary cancers. Geez they give you one thing for the cancer, then you get something else for the side effects never ending cycle.
I don’t know about all of you but, I sure get tired of doctor appointments and medications but what the alternative is I guess we just trudge on.
Most everyone is assigned a maintenance dose helps mm from coming back prolongs remission period.
I also worry about revilmid causing secondary cancer. My doc says it's best to stay on it and I have been since SCT in 2018. He does emphasize and I stay up on yearly mammograms and Colonoscopies.
