Yes. I for one have. I think for me it came down to the fact I didn’t have an aggressive form of MM. There are so many new, effective drugs on the market, one could move from drug to drug and stay in remission for years. Personally, I would opt for CAR-T over SCT as it’s less evasive and easier to recover from treatment. That being said, I harvested and froze my stem cells just in case they were needed. The first question to ask your Dr is how aggressive is your MM based off genetic markers. Hope this helps.

I also decided not to do an SCT but for totally different reasons. The primary reason at the time was to continue working and since I live alone and have no one to take care of me it would be a difficult situation. I am 68 with stage 3 highly aggressive MM with the 17p deletion and with what I know now would not have one just based on the approximate remission time of 1 year if any at all. That is a very short time for what I would put my body thru. I was diagnosed in March of last year and have been in remission since October with no symptoms or side effects. I will continue on maintenance and treatments if necessary until they are not longer effective then I will consider either an SCT or CAR-T.

No one has been able to tell me what doing the SCT will buy me. It’s a lot to go through.
