I understand that if I have IgA kappa smoldering multiple myeloma, that the myeloma cells that create the IgA antibodies will, over time, crowd out the normal plasma cells that create the IgG and IgM antibodies, causing the IgG and IgM levels to drop. However, I've had a total of seven blood tests since this whole ordeal began and the trend of ALL THREE immunoglobulin levels is down. My IgA is still way above normal, but it's on the downtrend. I would have thought my decreasing IgA level… read more

@A MyMyelomaTeam Member - yes, but I'm smoldering and asymptomatic so not undergoing any type of treatment. I fear what might be happening is the myeloma is compromising my immune system, causing my IgG, IgM and lambda levels to go below the minimum normal range. However, I would have expected that my IgA level would be going up (i.e., an increasing tumor load) in conjunction with the other two Igs going down. But my IgA is going down as well. I'll be asking my hemonc what he thinks is going on.

Hi @A MyMyelomaTeam Member - I hope you're well. In a nutshelll, my hemonc told me that, over time, reciprocal drops in the other globulins occur. But it’s not what drives treatment choices. IgG, if low enough, requires replacement. He told me that I'm very far from that, and that a very low IgG - to the point of needing replacement - wouldn’t occur in someone who is not undergoing treatment - which is the case with me. He wasn't concerned in the least about the lab trends. This was all conveyed to me via email. I'll ask him about it again to get further elaboration when I see him in May.

@A MyMyelomaTeam Member - My kappa level remains high. I'm already taking Resveratrol supplements (even though my hemonc told me they're all but useless due to low absorption), and I'm drinking pomegranate juice every day and eating fruits every day (including berries). Maybe I need to increase my serving size.
