I am especially interested in hearing about tooth extractions, and what options were offered to provide a functional, working mouth (ie) being able to chew, options for temporary or permanent bridges. And the risks involved with dental implants.

I had a tooth extraction after being on bisphosphonates (not Zometa as I had a reaction to that drug) and I was not a candidate for an implant as a result. Dentists are weary about implants for MM patients as it is and bisphosphonates complicate it further. I did get Bacterial Meningitis from the tooth extraction itself, even after 7 days of antibiotics, so my recommendation is get all work done prior to bisphosphonate treatments if you can!

Funny you should ask. My oncologist wants to put me back on Zometa after dropping it 6 yrs ago. I had to bring form to my dentist so she could fill out oral survey that was returned to doc, stating what had to be done before going on Zometa.
I just completed some of the work last week with an extraction scheduled for end of month. I meet with oncologist this week at the start of new infusion cycle and probably decide on Zometa start date. The dentist is responsible for any work done once informed a patient is on Zometa. Questions you have should be asked of your dentist. I have none of these issues other than upcoming extraction so can’t help with those.
