I believe you have to fail four lines of treatment before CAR-T it's an option. At least that was the case for me and I am at UNC. CAR-T was not recommended for me because of my heart being weak. Instead my doctor put me on Teclistamab which is similar and I've been in remission going on 4 months now. I hope that helps a little.
I’m also a UNC patient and I’ve only had one relapse. Originally I was on Revlimid, Velcade and Dexamethasone. For my relapse, I was switched to Darzalex, Kyprolis and Dexamethasone. I was also recommended a 2nd SCT and all has gone well for me. I would talk further with your oncologist about these options.
If they are still recommending CAR-T, I would ask them to give you comparison on “Bispecifics” versus CAR-T treatment. Also maybe they can get you in a clinical trial and help save some of the $$$ treatment cost
Bill, I am also at UNC and began teclistamab treatment last week. Was in UNC Hospital seven days as I was monitored for the initial graduated doses to determine if I was able to tolerate the treatment. Blessedly, I had no complications or any side effects at all. I had had five different treatments before this. I am 93yrs-old and was first diagnosed with MM on August 10, 2013, more than ten years ago. Thanks be to God for his multiplied blessings upon my life. Amen!
Hi Bill, thanks for your quick reply. I’m happy to hear about your treatment and it’s positive impact for you, I will research and discuss with my Dr. I’ve been on Revlimid since a stem cell transplant and have also received radiation after my 1st relapse. Wishing you a continued remission and Happy Thanksgiving.
Thanks Donna. I haven’t tried any of those therapies yet. I’ve had chemo, SCT, Revlimid and radiation. I don’t yet know what treatment I’ll be put on although CAR-T was in the conversation today. V best & Happy Thanksgiving!
