Once You Were In Remission, What/how Did You Deal With The Bone Damage, Fatigue And Other Remaining Symptoms?
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question ๐Ÿ’ญ

I've completed initial treatment and SCT and I'm now in remission. I am on 10 mg Revlimid for Maintenance. But that takes care of the MM. What about the bone pain, fatigue, etc. that remain? How have you dealt with that? What have your Drs advised, prescribed or recommended? I have pain in my back and one knee and fatigue. A bone density test has revealed Osteoporosis (no real surprise there considering). I've been told that will be treated and see the doctor next week. I've also beenโ€ฆ read more

My Dr at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta started me on Oxycotin 20mg twice a day & Oxycodone 5mg for breakthrough pain for about 4 months. When he told me to stop the Oxycotin I did but to take the Oxycodone 5mg when needed. I only take it when I keep hurting as I can't take N-saids or Tylenol because of stomach issues. For fatigue I usually lay down in bed with pillows propped up at my back & legs straight. That also helps my back also.
I was on Revlimid 10mg to start with then my Dr changed it to 5mg because I was having severe diarrhea starting in 2013. He finally took me off of it in 2019 because of the diarrhea, but unfortunately I still have diarrhea to this day. I have been to 3 GI doctors for it & they cannot find a cause for it except it was caused by the Revlimid that I had to take.
I have been in remission for almost 11 years now. I fell 2 years ago & had to have a partial hip replacement & I am still having pain from that because the doctor didn't get it spaced right & I found out he lost all his privileges in hospital in Birmingham 3 months after my surgery.
I try to deal with bone pain & fatigue by resting most of the time & take a pain pill when I absolutely have to.
You take one day at a time do what you can at the time.
I just keep the faith ๐Ÿ™ that a cure is coming.

I filed for social security disability and got it the first time, so I did not have to work. I found that walking helped however when I felt fatigued, I took naps. For the back pain, I took Tylenol 650 mg, my orthopedic doctor told me I could take up to 2600 mg per day. I, too, have osteopenia so the over-the-counter Tylenol helped me.

Sara,
Are you taking calcium with D3 & K2? I take MRM Bone Maximizer III -4 capsules. Itโ€™s really helped me. Calcium also helps dull pain. Fatigue is a hard one. Sometimes exercise will help, if you can get out of bed. Lol. Iโ€™ve been sleeping a lot.
