Managing Symptoms
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi...does anyone else struggle with the following symptoms? Neck and low back pain, itchy skin, blisters on fingertips (unhealed after 11 mos), muscle spasms, restless leg, difficulty sleeping, neuropathy, brain fog, tmj, and migraines? Suggestions to help me? Please!!

For muscle spasms, my oncologist recommended increasing my potassium. He also suggested a little bit of quinine water, every day, but the only brand that didn't have ingredients I find objectionable was beyond my budget for long term use. I drink coconut water, and now and then make potato dishes to eat. I check labels on food packages for their potassium content. My foot and leg cramps have disappeared.
When I was on Revlimid/Velcade/Dexamethazone, I began to get strange, small, painful bumps, filled with hard, white skin oil in random spots almost anywhere on my body. Some of those bumps, smaller now, are still with me nine months after stopping those treatments. On Darzalex/Faspro/Dexamethazone since April, and so far, no skin problems. I hope this at least helps the cramps. They are not fun.

In most cases, magnesium would be the best choice to relieve muscle cramps, since it is a muscle relaxant. In my case, my magnesium levels were fine, but potassium was consistently below normal. There can be more than one cause for symptoms.

Towncjt,
I have had all the symptoms you mention. I’m not on chemo so I don’t know if this will help but when I started using a C-Pap machine at night my headaches and brain fog went away. Also, I take Curcumin for brain fog and pain. My cramps were so bad my toes would touch my shins. I started taking lots of Calcium, D3 & K2 for absorption. The cramps went away and so did the restless legs. I had migraines for years and started watching my diet. No chocolate, salt filled pre-cooked chicken, almost no salty food. Salt, caffeine and carbonated drinks take the calcium out of your body. MM already does that! Keep a food journal an note what you eat and how you feel. Try to eat lots of organic vegetables. COQ10 is also good for the brain. Magnesium should help you sleep. I had blisters on my fingers. It was from pricking my fingers with rose thorns, or it could be from the meds. Ask a Dermatologist or your MM Specialist. The calcium I use is MRM Bone Maximizer III with MCHA 4 a day. Nordic Naturals has a D3 & K2 gummy that tastes good and it helps absorb the calcium. . Doctor’s Best is one of my favorite products. Lastly, Cod Liver Oil (lemon flavored) should help with your itchy skin.
