What Are Some Remedies For Peripheral Neuropathy?
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

I began feeling peripheral neuropathy shortly after my last chemotherapy session several months ago and it has only gotten worse. One of my life's passion has been playing the guitar and that is no longer possible. It saddens me and I was told that this condition may never go away. I've tried accupuncture, electric treatment, massage, qigong, yoga, cranberry juice and tart cherry juice. Any more suggestions?

Harry,
My mother had 30 super strong chemo treatments for ovarian cancer and never got neuropathy. What’s her secret? Nutritional yeast. She would make something called “Tiger’s milk”, and drink it multiple times a day. It’s made with 1 tablespoon of nutritional yeast, with a glass of milk (your choice), plus 1 tsp unsulphered blackstrap molasses. The nutritional yeast has all the B vitamins naturally. Buy the small flake type. It mixes best. I get mine at Trader Joe’s, but you can get it at any health food store. Bob’s Red Mill is another brand.
My Oncologist recommended Alpha Lipoic Acid .

@A MyMyelomaTeam Member,
Drugs help with the pain. Nutritional yeast helps to prevent it. It also prevents weight loss from chemotherapy. You will see the difference in your blood tests.

My solution was the drugs. I worked with a pain management specialist and started with 300mg gabapentin twice a day. But got no relief at night and zero sleep. I tried 2 other narcotics at night and finally got my answer with a small 5mg dose of Methadone. Every one in a while I may take an extra gaba. I have been off chemo drugs for 6 months and the neuropathy is getting better. So I'm lucky and the nerves are regenerating. But I also have a completely dead nerve that runs from my knee down the outside of my calf. Not very painful but I suspect it will never heal. Amazing how nasty these chemo drugs are. Good luck finding your solution.
