C-Pap And High Risk Of Infection
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

I use a C-Pap machine and clean it everyday but worry about lung infections. I have a low white blood cell count. Any recommendations?

There are CPAP cleaning devices in the market that create ozone sterilization , and cleaning recommendations that should keep your mask, hose and reservoir water sterile. Use only fresh , clean ,distilled water and keep the water changed daily. You should inspect the equipment for cleanliness and frequently change the hose and masks as the supplier recommends. There are also new technologies that replace the CPAP machines such as “Inspire.” You can check the internet for a local Ear ,Nose and Throat specialist that can assist in evaluating you for application. I hope these suggestions help.

Before I was diagnosed with MM, I seemed to always be fighting sinus infections. Later into my MM journey I found out that sinus infections sometimes preceded the MM diagnosis. So, later on I was given the So Clean machine that actually cleaned the CPAP machine in addition to what I cleaned, regardless of what went on this so clean machine actually helped with the infections.
I still use my machines and to date I have only had one sinus infection in over a year! Praise GOD, no sinus headaches, no stuffiness or runny nose!
You know cleanliness is next to GODLINESS, and I can really relate to that, especially since there is no headaches and or the nasal problems that I mentioned! GOD is so good!!!

I too have used CPAP for 15 years. Although the SOCLEAN machine is pricey, I I think it’s a great investment in your health. Good luck and feel better.

Thank you All for the feedback. I have a full mask and was cleaning it with a drop of Dawn and semi-hot water. It turns out the hotter the water the more it melts the glue that holds on the foam cushion. Whoops! Now I have found cleaning wipes, but I still wash the hose and attachments. And of course use distilled water. One thing I haven’t cleaned was the inside parts. Wasn’t sure how, but it said it should be cleaned. I don’t wake up with a headache anymore.

I have used a CPAP machine for over five years and clean it with a So Clean machine every day to kill anything that might cause an URI. The So Clean machine cleans the mask and hose.
