Has Anyone Else Developed Cavities Due To Your Mouth Being Dry All The Time Because Of The Medications?
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

After discussing the X-rays with my dentist, he explained that the medications make our mouths stay dry and sets us up for developing cavities because the saliva that usually helps wash the bacteria away is not there. I wish someone had mentioned this so I could try to prevent what has happened.

I use Xylimelts for dry mouth. You stick on in your mouth up on the gums at night. They work great and are not bad for your teeth. I have had great dental checkups. They are made by OraCoat. I order them from Amazon. Walmart May have them in the pharmacy. Hope this helps.

I have developed dry mouth. I used Biotene and went to the Dentist frequently for cleanings, however I could not save my teeth and had to have them extracted and replaced with dentures. I also have dry eyes for which I use eye drops.

My mouth was terribly dry the first year I was diagnosed. It was really miserable. I was drinking water constantly. I think the high dose steriods had something to do with it? It's better now.

Yellin I had dry mouth for a long time When they find my MM it was because my leg broke The bone took 13 months to heal so I was on pain medication for awhile Which makes your mouth dry I also seen where people on her were told to suck on a lot of ice when they had there Chemo Iwas never told to do that and my mouth got so sore I could hardly stand to brush my teeth.

Lack of saliva is a contributing factor. As I must use inhalers for asthma as well, extra vigilant hygiene is a must. Rinsing after each inhaler use, flossing, & brushing 2x daily.
