Diagnosed With SSM A Month Ago. Latest Testing Shows Some Kidney Damage. Anyone Else Experiencing The Same?
Thank you everyone for the great information! I am also smoldering, and hope to stay smoldering, so any advice is welcomed. I have some neuropathy as well and a tiny kidney stone. I go in 2 weeks for bloodwork to hopefully make sure that I’m still smoldering. I found around 5 years ago. Much love and Prayers to all❤️
@A MyMyelomaTeam Member,
My Oncologist recommended the Alpha Lipoic Acid. I don’t remember how much but I think I take less than recommended. 300 mg. I decided to eat healthier instead of fasting. Y blood sugar drops. I want to strengthen my T cells and immune system through my gut. Have you ever tried Bio-K Plus probiotic?

Paula,
Yes, we do sound alike. Thank for the supplement suggestions. I've never heard of Alpha Lipoic Acid, but I do know and like nutritional yeast. I take a multi vitamin for 55+ women that I hope covers vitamin D and B12. I also take curcumin with pelerine extract. I will add nutritional yeast to my regimen. Can you tell me how much Alpha Lipoic acid and nutritional yeast you take?
I recently read about a study at Dana Farber looking at fasting for 14 hours (over night mostly) as a way to lose weight AND lower risk of MGUS/SMM progressing to MM. I could stand to use about 10 pounds so am going to do that on my own. I feel like I'm grasping at straws, but maybe enough straws can keep us afloat.
I have a consult with Dr. Goertz at Mayo in a few days and will let you all know what I learn.
Best wishes for good health!
Deborah
Deborah,
We are a lot alike! My toes feel the same sometimes too. I’m trying to remember to take Alpha Lipoic Acid and Nutritional yeast. B vitamins help protect your nerves.

Hi Paula,
I was diagnosed with SMM in April too. My stage seems very similar to yours as I also have 10% plasma in my marrow, tingling/cottony sensation in my toes, and good kidney number, but I have IgG Lambda with a low Kappa/Lambda light chain ratio. My local hematologist/oncologist isn't real forthcoming with information about it. I have to ask specific questions to get answers, which is very frustrating. I'm going to have a consult at the Mayo Clinic later this month. If you're interested, I'll let you know what I find out.
