I’m worried it’s something else, my small town doctor goes so fast. Heading to MD Anderson next week for a 2nd opinion. 😟

KMc2,
The test results should be given to you and posted in MyChart or some other online portal, so you can print them out. It’s very important that you watch your results and keep the records. All your other doctors will want to see them too. He may have wanted to explain them before you saw them. You are your best advocate. They have so many patients, it’s not possible to watch every patient closely. If this attitude continues, change doctors as fast as you can.

Nothing wrong with getting a second opinion. I was full of questions and my older brother was too. I researched online many medical sites about my MM. I went through the online classes for the stem cell transplant. Lot to digest. 30 days after transplant , special diet, Surgeon that does the transplant said you have to be 100% ready for it. First 2 weeks after they give heavy chemo, you will feel like death, sick, throwing up, diarrhea. They take your platelets count down to 100 which the absolute minimum. Holy moly. What bothers me is it’s done outpatient now. I would have to get a homewood suites for a month close to hospital so I can go for treatment daily. Before Covid you would be in hospital for the transplant and treatment. You will not have an immune system and will be susceptible to infection if proper procedures are not followed. Not trying to scare anyone but this is how it was explained to me by the medical team . They explained it more to me than my Oncologist did. I still take my oral chemo- Revlamid,, dexamethasone ( 1 day per month) and Ninlaro which is on hold because I can’t afford the $150 co pay. Do my labs every 3 weeks, I get the results as does my Oncologist. Still stable. Sorry this was so long

I understood very little and that was from a specialist! So I understood about blood cancer and white blood cells! So I just paid attention as to how we were going to proceed! I don’t think you necessarily need to know all the numbers except when he says “ your numbers are looking better today”!! 🙏😁

To be honest, your test results are important to see and understand. In my case when my issues first started, I was in and out of the ER for very high blood pressure. The underlying cause was MM which made my body produce high Kappa light changes which damaged my kidneys. After my diagnosis, I was able to see my labs from the ER. They showed an elevation of creatine that I knew was an issue. Unfortunately for me, none of the Doctors noticed it or at least did not say anything. Ultimately, my kidneys failed and I have been on dialysis for 27 months. I dont get to be a fanatic about my labs but learned enough about them to review. I had some other minor problems that I caught that were missed. Good luck
