Protein Powders And Amino Acid Supplements
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does anyone use protein powders and or amino acid for recovery from exercise. I have asked my oncologist and he is neutral on the subject. Thanks, be active it’s a great weekend to get out.

After my SCT I was told it would be best to eat 1-1.5 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight. For me that meant 60-90 grams/day. I could not get that amount from my food so it was suggested that I add protein powder. The doctor who oversaw my transplant said either before or after exercise. He recommended I get a Whey Protein Powder, you can add 2 to 4 tablespoons to each cup of milk. But I make it into a smoothie as it is pretty thick tasting. I use it before exercise, it helps me keep distance in my walking routine.

Doctors are not trained in nutrition. He could refer you to a Nutritionist. I like amino acids. Protein powders are so different. Make sure it’s a healthy one. I’m glad you are able to exercise!
