New To Myeloma And Not Sure What To Expect. Do I Have Months Or Years To Live.
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

I will see oncologist next week but blood tests and symptoms are classic myeloma. What is the immediate treatment for the bone pain to stop the myeloma growth? I just sit here imaging my bones being eaten away everyday.

Yes bone pain is a part of it, as far as longevity I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 1999 have had an autologous stem cell bone marrow transplant in 2000 I have been in remission ever since but I have still suffers side effects which will occur from time to time. I am a 23 year multiple myeloma blood and bone cancer Victor, I don't like using the word survivor so keep in touch with your oncologist and just know that multiple myeloma has new technologies and treatments today just take one day at a time and you can live alone full enjoyable life,
may God continue to bless you just take one day at a time and keep your faith strong.

I was diagnosed last March. I was on treatment till October. Still in remission I did ok on treatment just didn’t feel real perky. I did have myeloma lesions in my hip that was missed and my hip broke and needed replaced and 5 days later they replaced the other one due to lesions. Then I did need a lot of help. I wish you well. Keep us posted. Hugs

Everyone's journey is different. While there is not a cure yet, the disease is managed with chemo, immunotherapy, steriods zometa (a bone strengthener) and other helpful drugs. Research as much as you can so you can ask the dr questions. I am going on my 8th year, so I feel blessed.

Keep up the great attitude Frank. At the end of the day it is just a crap shoot.

I don't minimize your question, but I can't dwell upon this, because the answers vary too much. Some say 5 years, but I've read of myeloma patients living 20 or more years. No one gives exact answers, they can't. I try to make the best of every day and thank God for my great team that keeps me going!
