Is Anyone Else Having A Problem With Their Teeth Or Gums Since Getting An Infusion Of Velcade?
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

I started to get sensitivity to a molar and gum surrounding it
one month after my first infusion. I have already had osteonecrosis from Xgeva which resulted in surgery. Will have to see a cancer dental surgeon this week.

I have receding gums, which have exposed the teeth making them very sensitive. It started after my Velcade treatment. I have also had some crumbling issues. Don't actually know whether or not if it was Revlimid /then the Velcade, or exactly what caused it. The crumbling could be from grinding when asleep at night from unexpressed anxiety over this situation that is beyond my control. Dentist said to use the Crest for gums and to alternate with Sensodyne. So that is what I have done.

I had a SCT Dec of 2022. In the last month my gums were so enflamed. I rinsed with warm saltwater, which didn’t hurt but didn’t take of the problem. This may be brought on by my Rev maintenance that I take daily. My dentist recommended that I use childrens toothpaste. (. no mint as it can be harsh on affected gums) and a soft tooth brush. I have to say it’s helped!
Good luck!! 🦷👍

I had Revlimid for my first treatment and became very allergic to it. Then they put me on Velcade. I went into a 6-month remission. I developed 2 chipped teeth which I thought was from anxiety grinding in my sleep. My Myeloma became 'active' again and I am now on Kyprolis.....my teeth are sensitive and it appears that my gums are receding. NOW I have to find a dentist that specializes in cancer patients. MY dentist retired 3 months ago - I just found out yesterday (Friday). So I see my oncologist this coming Wed. I hope she knows of one here locally. I have changed to using a little salt and baking soda (diluted in a tiny disposable bathroom cup) and it is helping. I use Crest ALL NATURAL also. Good luck, God Bless,
Teece

I needed a bridge in the left lower part of my mouth, but the Surgeon said that if they pull the 2 molars holding the bridge my jaw will break, because I took Zometa medications in 2014 intravenous for 14 months, so they make a removable rubber bridge it looks more like plastic, I had it in my mouth for 1 day and hurt my gum and my tongue, I had blisters all around so now I have to rinse with a special liquid, but it is much better now. I hope you didn’t have any medication to strengthen your bones. The only thing we can do is hope for the best, stay positive, because it is out of our hand it is nothing we can do. We are lucky that we wonderful Doctors in this country.

My teeth also suffered after the transplant, but thankfully the cancer test was negative. Now I have to get a bridge and a crown. But it's all good. Stay strong
