Does Anyone Still Have Back Pain Who Had Compression Fractures Repaired With Kyphoplasty?
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

Ahoy shipmates, I had 9 compression fractures repaired with kyphoplasty. I still have back pain. The doctor told me I have arthritis.
Any shipmates experiencing the same problem? Any suggestions? I would appreciate any advice. Thank you so much. Enjoy your evening.

Angela 4. My fractures are similar to your. T7/8/9/10/11/12. L1/2/3. Lost about 4” in height. Compressed me so that I’m not sure where my waist is now !!! If I overdo it , which I have a tendency to do , my back starts hurting. Epsom salt baths with magnesium flakes helps. Also I lay in a pemf crystal heated mat and that is also wonderful. Massage always helps . Good luck to us all

Shipmate, Linda. Actually, the Kyphoplasty was a blessing for me. I needed it badly, I couldn’t even get out of bed. It took me a good half hour to work my way to the end of the bed try to get up. It was a nightmare!!! Now the pain is more like a pinched nerve on my lower left side near the cheek of my buttocks. I’ve noticed it if I move a certain way I see stars. I need to be careful when I get in and out of the car. It is not another compression fracture because I had an MRI and everything is good. I do have osteoporosis. Enjoy your evening.

They didn't find my MM until it was pretty advanced and had done a lot of damage. The backpain I kept complaining about was 7 spinal fractures. They treated me with Zometa to stablize the bones and then did a bone marrow transplant which put me in remission for about 2 years. But they also put me on Fentanyl patches which I still wear. Everytime they talked about kyphoplasty they talked themselves out of it. Now my spine is very curved and lying flat for 2 hours or whatever the time recommended is not feasible now. I lost 4 inches in height but I could walk just had to give up all my favorite activities. We bought garden tables for our patios and put our vegetables in that as the doctors recommended. I don't have much pain, but I have learned to do things differently. I year or so back I fell and broke a bone in my leg. Then when treatment started I fell and my husband tried to help and broke my collar bone. After all that sitting my muscles are weak and not working. I can only walk across the house before pain in my back makes me sit down. But that feels like muscle pain. I am going to use a PT to get back on my feet. Bottom line-I have 8 compression fractures that they try to keep stabalized with bone building things so no kyphoplasty and very little pain if I take care of things and don't try pick up anything.

I had three tumors on spine, one removed with surgery other two with chemo. SCT in 2020! Still have some back pain all the time! But beats the alternative! 😅

I had two spinal fractures & had kyphoplasty. The first fracture prompted my dr to do further testing.. as a result, I was diagnosed with MM. Then a couple weeks later I had a second fracture. I had quite a bit of pain as I was recovering..Fentynal patch, Oxycodone.. it is now five yrs later & once in a while I get slight discomfort but nothing too alerting, thanks to God. I have taken some falls over the past five yrs, but the kyphoplasty remains in place.
