Re-Vaccination After An ASCT?
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi everyone, what's your opinion (or your doctor's) on getting re-vaccinated for common vaxs like measles, mumps, etc., after having undergone a successful autologous SCT?

I’m on a clinical trial. I’m only going once a month now for infusions. I get a bag of antibodies each month to keep my immune system built up. I’m 71 and have been in remission since October 2022

Greetings from Alaska I was told that measles mumps and rubella would not be given until two years after transplant because we can’t have a live virus, and I believe those contain live viruses. My doctors has a schedule for my immunizations so every few months I’ll have another one don’t want to overload the system as I did not achieve remission with my SCT. A little at a time is good.

You have too remember that MM make our immune system weak so it will benefit you to get all of your shots too Protect you from people that are not vaccinated because we can get sick quicker than other people.

It’s normal from my experience. I had my own stem cells transplanted and all childhood vaccines were required again. 👍

Hi Keith, I received all the vaccines after my stem cell transplant. I started out with five vaccines at once. I asked if I could cut down on the vaccines for three at a time, I dont totally remember, but I think the vaccines were given every three months or so....It took a little longer, but I took two or three vaccines every few months. Had a fever with a few of the vaccines, nothing serious. So I kept going, getting my vaccines and finished!. I did take the two shingles vaccines as well. Good idea to be protected against Shingles, that can really make a person sick, and last quite a while. I believe they checked the titers, and they were fine after getting these shots.. My daughter and I came down with Covid right after Easter. We did get Covid, it was like getting the regular flu, but worse!.Some people get a mild case, but we were sick for two and a half weeks. My daughter missed three weeks of work, and worked from home the final week. She works in NYC, and think that perhaps she was exposed taking the train back and forth each day. She always wore a mask, I did too. Glad we had all our Covid vaccines. Right now, we cannot get any vaccines for at least three months Dont know when I will get my final vaccine of MMR. The titer was checked for MMR, and it looks like I do not have immunity to that, Prayers sent your way and for all of our Multiple Myeloma group. Things will get better. God bless all the doctors, nurses, researchers working on this disease, Sunny . . .
