A high level of kappa free light chains in the serum can be indicative of light chain multiple myeloma. In this condition, malignant plasma cells produce an excess of one type of light chain, either kappa or lambda. A serum free light chain assay is used to detect these excess light chains in the blood. If the kappa chains are significantly higher compared to lambda chains, it suggests an imbalance due to the overproduction by the malignant cells.

Always consult with your healthcare provider for a comprehensive interpretation and appropriate next steps.

Please discuss with your oncologist. My first free light chain in April 2020 was 1,677! After nearly 3 years of treatment it is now 22.4. It had dropped to a low of 15.7. The oncologist assures me this is fine. It may go up a little, but nothing super abnormal. If it climbs really high, then he will adjust treatment. It is always helpful to discuss any abnormal results to know what's going on.
Be well.
