Bone Marrow Biopsy Mid Treatment

A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭
Los Angeles, CA

I’ve been treated for 7 months for mm wish faspro rev dex. and my Md is now suggesting a bone marrow biopsy , perhaps new drugs.
I am nervous about this, as I am 80 and have cardiac and anemia, neutropenia issues. Anyone know a different test less severe way to measure my current condition ?
Thank you! 😊

A bone marrow biopsy gives the most information. You can ask for sedation so you don't feel pain. The peripheral blood samples are just not as accurate, yet anyway. I would ask about sedation. 💗

Donna has a good idea Bobbi. I just had another one last Wednesday. I've gone through the IR with sedation the last 2 times. I figure no reason to go through pain/discomfort when you don't have to.
We get enough of that that we can't control.😉👍

Add yoga because the respiratory exercises can help you to control the pain, watch videos on line for a faster way to do it, bone marrow biopsy is the best way how the doctor can help you and get your proper treatment, best!

A bone marrow biopsy during treatment for multiple myeloma can help assess how well the treatment is working. The procedure involves numbing the back of the pelvic bone, inserting a needle to remove a small amount of liquid bone marrow (aspiration), and a small piece of bone for pathology. This helps in evaluating the presence of myeloma cells and can include tests like minimal residual disease (MRD) to determine the response to treatment.
