Length Of Time For Chemo Treatment
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello everyone: My husband's oncologist told him "he may have chemo for a long time, until there is "some sort of remission." He has it 3 times per month...his 8th month now....How possible is this? Doesn't that stop working eventually? My husband has MM with light chain kappa and kidney failure. Not on dialysis but with a high creatinine level (1.8) and GFR at 41. The doctors he sees are all vague... They say they have "different levels of treatments" if the first one does not work. And happy… read more

Did he have a stem cell transplant?
I was on 5 months of KRD then transplant now on Revlimid only
I am MRD negative
Hopefully he is being treated at a cancer center like UCSF , Mayo Clinic etc

Adding some thing I forgot: actually the oncologist said she will consider SCT if the first set of treatment fails, That at this time it is a dangerous procedure for my husband. Treatment is Cytoxan, bortezomib also known as velcade, darzalex (both given in shots) steroids.

I very much apologize for answering late. Actually, I thought i had answered from my iphone but somehow something happened so using now my laptop. FIRST, THANK YOU, @A MyMyelomaTeam Member and @A MyMyelomaTeam Member for answering. We see my husband's oncologist once a month, so end of next week. I will ask. He is being treated at UCSF but stem cell apparently is not what they said they would do considering the high risks based on his current situation- his kidneys mostly...I think my husband does not like to ask questions. Maybe this helps him as he is keen on continuing working no matter what. Even travelling for work. but he gets tired easily. I hope everyone has more good days than bad days.

They will keep him on the same treatments until they stop working. I have been on the same treatments since my transplant December 2017. Ask about MRD testing on his bone marrow. Some people are getting to MRD negativity and are able to stop treatment for a while and be monitored.
