Stem Cell Transplant
I didn't know where to tell my story. January 24, 2003 I received my stem cell transplant. Today it is 20 years with good health and no medication. I am now 80 years old, I thank God for giving me these years to spend time with my family.
I pray there are others who have had this success.
Nancy Espy.
Please let me know.
They have so many new drugs. The first Dr. didn't even want to treat me as I was 56 years old when diagnosed and they prognosis was so bad. He said it it was him he would go home drink wine and eat chocolate. I said I wouldn't do that. My insurance changed about 3 years later and the next Dr. told me that he thought I was a good candidate for a SCT. I started 100 hours of chemo on Dec.28 2001. I transplanted January 24, 2003. I believed if I got a chance for the transplant I would get well. God blessed me!
That's wonderful to hear that you have survived all these years. It gives me hope
Best news I’ve heard today. I pray that I have 20 more years too. 7-11 was my 1 yr anniversary and last bone marrow extract showed no cancer!!
Hi NancyGarcia - get a clonoSEQ test (blood based is okay - bmb if you can). If you're MRD Negative at 10 -6 (no cancer per million cells tested), then look at the Case Studies of MRD2STOP and MRD-SURE and the video from Dr Costa of "What to do with your MRD Result". These all say to stop maintenance and go on Monitoring. Discuss with you Doc.
Thanks for sharing. I'm definitely looking forward to when I no longer have to take medication 🙂
