Any Suggestions On How To Phase Out 5mg - 4x Daily, Immediate Release Oxycodone (ir-oxy)?
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

I've been working down all of my neuropathy pain meds during the last nine months. I was on 1800mg gabapentin daily (600x3) plus 5mg ir-oxy 4x daily. Phased down Gaby to 900, then 300 and then to Lyrica. Phased out Lyrica as well.

I'm trying to phase out the ir-oxy - taking 5mg at 5:30am, the second at 2 - 3pm and the final at 9pm. It gets quite painful and the next dose takes about an hour to quite things down. This is a recent reduction from 4x daily. I expect some of the pain is withdrawal… read more

I had terrible neuropathy leg pain at night. Tried all the usual prescribed pain killers. None worked. My doctor prescribed liquid methadone. It was like a miracle, no pain the first night and succeeding nights. I took a small dose before bed. That was all I took in a 24 hour period. My second prescription of methadone was in pill form. My blood numbers returned to normal and I stopped my myeloma treatment. Over a three week period I slowly weaned myself off the methadone. My neuropathy pain did not return.

The methadone treated my neuropathy pain. Remission of my myeloma resulted from my valcade/dex/revlimid regimen. The liquid methadone dosage was 5mg/5ml and the tablets were 5mg. I believe 3 weeks was the time period for each type of dosage. Phasing out involved reducing the frequency of use to every other day and then every 2 days etc. My leg neuropathy pain did not return.

Oxycodone did not work for me.

I was using over 300mg of morphine a day for many years, and had tried to stop numerous times with no success. A friend gave me THC suppositories (or THC/CBD) and they worked great. It hits the same receptors so I had no pain, and since it is not processed thru the digestive system I did not get 'high'. I was able to stop the morphine with no side effects. Once your body transitions to THC, you can stop all of it if you want to. But it does work well for pain, and it won't screw up the rest of your system like opiates. I get these from either Synergy Wellness or Nano Solutions.

CBDa is amazing for nausea, and can be used either as an enteric capsule or a suppository. A great thing to pair with chemo drugs as nearly all side effects are stopped.

Thank you Emma,
I wish my hematologist/oncologist was a little more forthcoming about these things. I’ve found I need to be my own advocate because I’m not getting drug along by anyone but me.
I hope to never take revlimid again I was on it, a steroid dex and velcade for eight months. I developed bad neuropathy in my legs and feet. I need to check into k27.

BOB66 My family doctor always telling me about stuff he reads about He has me taking K2-7 and Turmeric 500mg Qunol Ultra High Absorption He even printed out the study’s for me to read My Cancer did a biopsy in October and he said I have no cancer cells in my blood He took me off of Revlimid for three months he wants to see if that is what is keeping me blood counts so low and platelets I ago back at the end of the month to see if it has helped me counts I do know it has stopped my diarrhea and I am so happy about this. I am hoping that I don’t have to go back on Revlimid again. I find out after a year and a half of my insurance paying my doctor bills that my insurance doesn’t except my insurance. I miss my doctor so much He always made me feel special None of his other patients have MM and he takes the time to Research about MM .
