Multiple Myloma Pain
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

Why do MM patients suffer from so much pain while going through treatment? Does this mean that the treatment isn't effective?

I don’t have an answer. I know that I have had lots of pain. I have had to use ice, heat, creams with and without lidocaine. I have tried using my mind, listening to music exercises, all seemed to work some of the time! I have used CBD oil again some worked some did not. I was in medical marijuana and with OxyContin I had relief, again at times.
There seems to be a path for some and not for others. I find prayer and oxy helps. It is for me a strong prayer life, reading my BIBLE, and believing JESUS’ words! Isaiah 53:5
“But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭53‬:‭5‬ ‭ESV‬‬

I already had arthritis, so sometimes it’s difficult to tell the difference. I have a torn rotator cuff which causes pain and my doctor said he would not perform surgery. I do experience lower back pain, and I use CryoDerm for lower back pain and shoulder pain from the rotator cuff. I also take Tylenol.

I have such bad back pain. I had SCT July 14 and had no treatment since I got home in August. I had another compression fracture repaired on November 4 and thought my pain would be gone. But no luck my back pain looks like it maybe here to stay as long as I’m on this earth. I already took 2 extra strength Tylenol, it didn’t do a blessed thing. Even sitting down my back hurts. It’s awful.

The only 'bad' pain I have had so far was when radiation therapy started and collapsed the tumor at my T9 vertebrae onto the nerve. It took a couple of days of treatment for that to improve and I had to be prescribed some narcotic for the pain at that point. Otherwise, I don't think I have had pain anywhere worse than a 4-5 relieved with tylenol. Sometimes I have arthritis pain in joints that gets the better of me - both thumbs for example and my left hip but so far, not caused by MM or treatments for MM. I know I am blessed.
