Anybody On Here Have Normal Calcium Levels In Their Blood Work?
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

My fiancee was just diagnosed Monday with three spots after her T12 vertebrae exploded and she had to have an emergency fusion. We are waiting on oncology report to come back. But all of her blood work was in the normal and good ranges. MRI's showed no advancement as of yet into her organs. But they are saying it is multiple Myeloma. Thanks for any info you guys can share.

My husband was diagnosed because of severe bone pain in the sternum. His calcium is still normal. At the time of diagnosis, normal blood work looked good, normal. His Kappa light chains were high in the serum electrophoresis. His bone marrow biopsy confirmed. At about 3 cycles of treatment his blood counts went down.

You are so welcome!! But everyone's experience is just that,~their own experience. I had quite a few weird things happen including the paralysis of my legs! Went through 3 weeks of intensive rehab where I stayed for 3 weeks. I actually needed more therapy but insurance wouldn't cover anymore so I went home in a wheelchair. But I am walking through the grace of God. That alone was a very tough and trying experience. Don't know for sure what caused the paralysis but we think
the Velcade in the beginning did me in. Long story. My whole story is more like a multiple chapter book!
Enough for now. Happy & Blessed Easter to you!

Thank you for the response. We got results from the bone biopsy yesterday it came back positive. We go for a marrow biopsy at the end of the month. Her fusion went well Neurosurgeon said he got into good bone with all 8 screws. She should be out of rehab in 7 days they said. They told us depending on the marrow biopsy what treatments we are looking at. They mentioned stem cell and marrow transplant. Injections of chemo and pills of chemo. There is no spread into any of her organs which right now is a small blessing and hope we have some more. Right now they have found 3 spots one on her pelvic bone and one up above the t12 which exploded. She has slight drop foot in left foot but all use of lower extremities right now. Thank you again first hand experience is much appreciated.

I had similar experiences getting diagnosed. At first they said it wasn't myeloma because my labs didn't support it. My spine was ravaged when a plasmacytoma burst in L2 through L4. My spinal cord was compressed and it was the worst pain ever! So I also had emergency surgery with a fusion. Glue was used because my spine was not strong enough to support hardware. Anyway, I presented with myeloma very differently than most. So in short, it can sometimes be a bit difficult to find. I don't know if this helps you but I pray that your fiance will be treated if it's definitely MM and soon if it is. Prayers for you both. Stay strong. Use us here for info and loving support! My best to you!
