Can People With Multiple Myeloma Taking Maintenance Therapy Get The Covid 19 Vaccine?
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi
I am on Daralex and dexamethasone for maintenance therapy. I ask my doctor about getting the Covid 19 vaccine and was told it may not be as effective because of the maintenance therapy. They did not say I could not get the vaccine, but I should check to see what the CDC guidelines were.

Thanks

I say get vaccinated! 😀 I have never heard anyone say this before. We are all on some kind of treatments better safe than sorry.

Hey Wordpass, I called the CVS specialty pharmacist. She said it is fine to get the vaccine. She pulled up the CDC guidelines for immunocompromised patients. The shot might not be as effective for us. She said to make sure we get both vaccines. We will have to continue to mask, social distance and strict handwashing for several months until herd immunity happens.

Add me to the list! I have had all three (Moderna) vaccines with no ensuing problems and am on maintenance therapy.

Even if the vaccine is less effective, ANY help is worth getting! I have MM and
am so grateful that I got the vaccines. I was tested and indeed had a good response and my body generated antibodies against the disease.
