What Treatment Has Helped With Neuropathy?

A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

My doctor prescribed Gabapentin to help, but the neuropathy doesn’t seem much better. I am trying to build strength and not need a walker to get around since my hospital, stay for pneumonia, but the “pillow feet” make me uneasy. Both feet feel numb.
Has anyone found something that helps more with the neuropathy?

I was on gabapentin soon after SCT but found it ineffective. I believe I did not understand how and when to taste it, My solution for foot neuropathy is ….. warm socks. My mild neuropathy is aggravated by cold. My warm hunting socks makes it go away. 😃 ymmv

Good luck with your treatments. I find that the little wins are rewarding. I have been a guitar player since my teens. With neuropathy my fingers seemed to feel like giant hot dogs. Gripping a chord was impossible. Lately, I've been able to put a few chords together with a semblance of actual music. Hey, I'll take it! God bless you and your support team.

What is red light therapy? I've tried a device called Reflecta. It's two foot pads connected to a unit that emits an electric charge. 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the evening. It's been over 6 months but I haven't given up. I have accupunture treatments every two weeks. The acupressure massage following the treatment is excellent. I force myself to walk at least 2 miles every other day and get my yoga stretches in. I take Lyrica, hydrocodin and Tylenol when needed. I can't call my condition severe because I'm still walking without any assistance. My balance, stamina and weakness are always present. It's been over a year that neuropathy set in and it just doesn't seem to be going away. To put things into perspective, every time I go into the VA Hospital I leave there feeling lucky after seeing my fellow vets in wheelchairs.
Best wishes.
