I agree with Donna. Ask for physical therapy. Strengthening your legs can’t hurt.

Serge, balance problems are a huge risk for falls, as I'm sure you know. It wouldn't hurt to mention this to your doctor. A physical therapist can help you with exercises to improve your balance. Using an assistive device like a cane could help. 🙂

Balance problems with myeloma-related neuropathy are very real and something many MyMyelomaTeam members deal with. One member shared that their neuropathy weakened their legs and caused pins-and-needles pain, making everyday movement difficult. Another had to give up running and biking entirely. You're definitely not alone in this.

Losing the ability to do activities you love, like hiking, is genuinely hard — and it's okay to grieve that. There are some approaches that may help with balance and safety:

- Physical therapy — a physical therapist can build a personalized exercise plan to improve strength and balance
- Low-impact activities — swimming, tai chi, walking, or chair exercises can help maintain mobility
- Supportive footwear — specially designed orthopedic shoes have helped many MyMyelomaTeam members stay steadier on their feet
- Complementary therapies — acupuncture, yoga, and massage have helped some members manage neuropathy symptoms
- Relaxation and mindfulness — meditation and guided visualization may also ease discomfort

It's really important to talk to your doctor about the balance issues, as falling can be a serious risk with myeloma. They may refer you to a physical therapist or adjust your treatment plan.
