Online sermons are not the same! However, I would like to meet people! What's holding me back is my compromised immune system. Do others get out & socialize?

Members responded with warmth and encouragement to the question about socializing with a compromised immune system, with many sharing that attending church and staying connected socially is very important to their emotional wellbeing. Several members described practical steps they take to stay safe, including wearing N95 or standard masks, keeping vaccines up to date, using hand sanitizer, avoiding people who are sick, and checking with their medical team before going out. A recurring theme was that with the right precautions and doctor guidance, getting out and enjoying life is both possible and deeply worthwhile.

I was diagnose in Jan. 2026 and as long as I am feeling good, I get out as much as possible. If I am going into a large crowd I wear a mask. Get you flu, covid, pneumonia and any others after asking doctor permission to get. Most of the time I don’t have a bed for a mask. Have lunch with friends etc. it is very important to keep having a social life, it help with going through this. Good luck

Hi Cheri,

I live on acreage. The only time I see people, other than my husband is when I go to dental and medical appts. Last Friday I gave my husband a break and took an Uber to the dentist. This was my first Uber ride. During the short drive, we talked a lot. It turns out she attends the church that I have had my eye on for a while. I didn't realize how much I miss socialing with other people face to face.

Right now, everything is going so well for me. My Doc recently took me off Revlimid maintenance and I'm starting to feel like my normal self again. My August 2026 labs are normal, except my IgG and IgM. Now that I'm off Revlimid, I'm hoping they will return to normal soon. In the mean time, I wear an N95 mask when I go to appts.

What I'm trying to say is, even though I have masks to protect me, I'm not quite ready to take the risk and go out anywhere that is not absolutely necessary. I'm concerned that If I catch something, my immune system will have to work on resolving it, in-addition to the residue MM cells I still have. The day is coming when I'll be able to go out again. I'll just have to be patient.

If you do attend the church, consider wearing a good mask. I'll bet you won't be the only one there with one on.

I had a sct in 2022. For the first year was careful with crowds and sniffing grandkids but as time has gone on my immune system has worked better and carry on normal activities, church, social functions ect. Just careful around sick folks.

Yes wear a mask to protect yourself. At first, I was afraid to go out socially. I just adapted to my new normal by always wearing a mask or asking my friends if they are okay health wise. I don’t see folks with colds, etc. A little caution goes a long way.
