Yes, I have flown numerous times after getting into remission. Spent two weeks in Iceland in September.

Since being diagnosis with SMM I have still flown frequently. When my lamba was down close to 4.0 I would get sick everytime. Then my Lamba went back up to closer to 5.0 and I did not get sick on the next two trips. On my last trip however I did get sick again so I am expecting my Lamba will be back down close to 4.0 when I get my blood test later this month. There are treatments (IVIG i think) to help your immune system which I was made aware of when I was getting sick , so far I have opted not to have them. Hope this helps.

Flying with myeloma is something many members think carefully about. One MyMyelomaTeam member chose to skip air travel entirely during the holidays, noting concerns about being exposed to illness from other travelers, long security lines, and the general stress of airports.

Their approach included some practical precautions worth considering:

- Frequent handwashing
- Wearing gloves outdoors
- Carrying extra tissues
- Avoiding crowded spaces where possible If flying is necessary, it's worth talking to your oncologist beforehand, especially since myeloma can affect the immune system, making exposure to germs in enclosed spaces like planes a real concern.

For those who prefer road trips as an alternative, another MyMyelomaTeam member shared a helpful tip — stopping every couple of hours to get out and walk, even if it means doing laps around a gas station. No judgment there — safety first!
