Members shared a mix of personal experiences and practical tips in response to a question about yoga and acupuncture for back pain. Several members spoke positively about acupuncture for pain relief, while others recommended starting yoga carefully, noting that core strength can be key to reducing back pain, and that chair yoga is a gentler option worth trying. A recurring theme was the importance of personalizing any approach, consulting professionals familiar with chronic pain, and leaning on supportive care like magnesium lotion massages, homemade soups, and palliative care for more serious pain management needs.

My back broke in two places - while my body was starting to be invaded by Multiple Myeloma-5 months before diagnosed. Long story short, my husband read that a magnesium lotion was good for sore muscles. That was my main problem along with a painful spine. He’d gently massage my back before bed - very relaxing and helps me sleep. Then of a morning, he’d wake my muscles up with another gentle massage. It’s worked wonders.
My good friend who cooks everything organically, brings me a pot of homemade lentil (also split pea and a few others) soup weekly. I also attribute this nutrition to helping my achey bone and muscles! Nutrition is also very important

I began practicing yoga during COVID online in my living room. It’s been one of the best things to happen to me health wise. At first I hurt my back while learning, but then I found that by doing yoga carefully and correctly that core strength grows by leaps and bounds and core strength is key, for me anyways, to eliminating back pain.
My online yoga offers live classes with opportunities for the teachers to see me and speak directly to me to teach how to move without hurting myself.

TBH, there are so many restaurants in Brooklyn and NYC, based on perusing the menus, some look really good. However, eating out several times a week can get rather expensive.
Amazingly, not to generalize, or put everyone in the same boat, but a lot of gals in their 20s-30s have no conception of cooking. I hope they have good jobs. Average price per person in NYC at a mid-range restaurant is $120-140!

Thank you! You’re blessed to have this heritage! My husband learned to cook watching Natalie Dupree (?). He was desperate once I couldn’t cook’ we’ve never been fans of restaurants..,,

I want to come eat your soup with you!!! I will say my husband had perfected chicken noodle (using protein noodles) and beef vegetable. He took over cooking 44 years ago during my pregnancy! But he’s not a fan of split pea soup, beef barley anything, butternut squash soup or lentils! Do you use a pressure cooker?
