I have been receiving palliative care for unrelenting neuropathy pain in both feet for 3 months now, with pain control med adjustments we are beginning to get a handle on it. They are not just about pain control meds, but you do have to get some relief before you are up to do any more. I think your husband will find they will indeed help him a great deal!

Palliative care will be able to help. There are many avenues for pain relief - which is actually a specialty of theirs.

Palliative care is all about managing symptoms and improving quality of life. It works alongside his myeloma treatments, not instead of them. Here's what the palliative care team may be able to help with specifically for bone pain and spinal lesions:
- Pain medications — including stronger options like opioids if needed, delivered as pills, patches, or even at-home infusions
- Radiation therapy — can shrink lesions pressing on nerves or the spine, which may significantly reduce pain
- Bisphosphonate drugs — help strengthen bones, protect against further damage, and ease bone pain
- Kyphoplasty — a minimally invasive procedure that can stabilize fractured vertebrae using bone cement
- Back brace — can help support the spine and reduce pressure
- Sleep support — because bone pain often disrupts sleep, a specialist can help address this too One MyMyelomaTeam member shared that they had lesions pressing on a nerve in their lower back causing severe pain, and after 10 rounds of radiation, it worked really well for them.
The palliative care team also supports emotional wellbeing — for both your husband *and* you as his caregiver. Don't hesitate to bring your own concerns to that August appointment too. You matter in this journey.

Palliative care is to help manage symptoms. I would for sure give it a try. Palliative care is appropriate at any time during our treatment journey. 😀

I love my palliative care team. They have me on pain pills, sleeping meds for nights that I can't sleep. They will take time to talk to you about any concerns you have about your diagnosis. Prayers for your husband's pain and for you as a caregiver
May you have a blessed night.
