Henry,
My mother had Stage IV ovarian cancer and took Bob’s Red Mill Nutritional Yeast multiple times a day, and never got neuropathy, even though she was on super strong chemotherapy. She would put 2 heaping teaspoons of Nutritional yeast in a glass of apple juice or add it to milk with a little unsulphered blackstrap molasses. I take 2 large teaspoons a day and my neuropathy is somewhat under control. I have had it since 2014. I probably should take more. Nutritional yeast has lots of B vitamins in it.

Neuropathy is one of the most talked-about challenges in the myeloma community, and many people have found relief through a combination of approaches. Here's a summary of what has helped others:

Prescription Medications
- Anticonvulsants (some members found significant pain relief after dosage adjustments)
- Antidepressants (one MyMyelomaTeam member reported pain dropping from a 10 to a 1)
- Corticosteroids to reduce inflammation
- It's worth noting that it may take trying more than one medication to find what works

Over-the-Counter Options
- Tylenol or topical creams like lidocaine
- Menthol-based creams or cocoa butter massaged into affected areas
- Important: Avoid NSAIDs like ibuprofen or naproxen, as they can increase the risk of kidney damage with myeloma

Vitamins & Supplements
- B vitamins, particularly B-12 and B complex, have helped several MyMyelomaTeam members reduce numbness
- Always check with your doctor before adding supplements, as some may interact with myeloma treatments Physical & Complementary Therapies
- Physical therapy to improve balance and strength
- Low-impact exercise like swimming or stretching
- Acupuncture, massage, yoga, and meditation have helped many members
- One MyMyelomaTeam member said "massage and acupuncture saved my life"

Footwear
- Supportive orthopedic shoes have made a big difference for some — brands like Orthofeet and San Antonio Shoes are community favorites

Staying Safe
- If sensation is reduced in hands or feet, use potholders when cooking and check water temperatures carefully to avoid accidental burns or cuts

It's really important to let your care team know as soon as symptoms appear or worsen — early action can make a real difference. And remember, what works for one person may not work for another, so it may take some trial and error to find the right combination for you.

I've had neuropathy since 2008. It sure takes the fun out of driving.
